If you have ever fancied running the rapids on a river then this is the course for you.
Course Description
You will learn a lot, do a lot of kayaking and if you are not superhuman your muscles will be aching for most of the following week! Take it from us, those aching limbs bring back plenty of memories to cheer your working days. Kayaking keeps many office workers sane, though their colleagues may disagree!
The main aim of the two day course is to get you comfortable paddling a boat on white water whilst gaining a huge amount of experience. Your highly qualified instructors will increase your ability and skill level whilst maintaining a suitable pace for all involved. The Beginners and Improvers course is perfect for someone who has done some Kayaking before, or if you're a complete novice this is a great introductory course. Throughout the two days we will be working on getting you to grips with the techniques of White water paddling, looking at edge control, balance, power application, strokes, river and water reading, rescues and lots more.
Details
For Beginners and Improvers we will start off by coaching your basic skills and working on balance control and then it’s on to the power of the river, where you will learn how to transfer your new and existing skills to allow you to enter and exit out of the flow (breaking in and out), move the boat across the flow (ferry gliding), run small rapids and more! A likely programme would be a day working on skills at Mile End Mill then a days river trip on a grade 2 river.
This is a great intro to white water paddling and we promise you will want to do more.
For Intermediates (those capable of being led down grade 2 white water and working towards the level of the BCU 3 Star Award, you should be capable of edging, breaking in, breaking out and Ferry gliding)
We will work on improving and developing skills such as Ferry Gliding, surfing, breaking in, breaking out, attaining, choosing lines, use of support strokes in moving water. This is good preparation for the BCU 4 Star Leader Course.
For Advanced Paddlers (those capable of being led on Grade 3 white water and working towards Grade 4)
Develop your river running skills to a higher level to open up the door to paddling on grade 4. The course will be dependent on your existing skills and your paddling objectives. The ability to roll in white water will maximise the value you get from this course.
Your coaches are likely to be Pete and Richard

Thank you for the 2 day Kayaking course it was just what I needed. Despite falling in a lot, being cold and wet I really enjoyed it.. I learned loads and got an great insight into white water rather than the now flat and boring river runs I had done previously.

Thank you for organising kayaking and gorge walking for my husband and I in April.
We both had a fantastic time and will be coming back for more before too long. Scotty, Ant, and Dave were brilliant instructors - I had total confidence in them and learnt so much during the three days. Would you also pass on a special thanks to Scotty for me please for lending me his jacket when we were kayaking - I appreciated that so much, it made a real difference.
Thanks again and look forward to seeing you soon.

I was very impressed by the instructors and other staff. The instruction was very competent and professional. I've been on many short courses over more than 30 years (not usually sports), so it's difficult to remember if this was "the best", but it's up there with them.
