This is the course that sets you off on your way as a paddler.Explore our local flat water and learn how to control you canoe with grace and skill.
Course Description Canoeing is one of those rare sports that enables you to get to places that few people (other than canoeists) can get to. This one day course is all about giving you the tools, skills and knowledge to safely and enjoyably achieve this. Using one of the many gorgeous pieces of flat water found near Llangollen, our qualified and experienced instructors will get you cruising around and exploring. Become master of your own craft!! More DetailsCanoeing is all about maintaining control of the canoe, whether this be with a paddle, rope, pole or sail. This day is geared around giving you those skills. We will look at various ways to steer the canoe, from the stern pry through to sweeps and draws and the infamous J-Stroke. Then using these skills we will go and explore the World Heritage site of the Pontcysyllte aqueduct on the Llangollen canal, or maybe Bala Lake. On the journey we will introduce you to trim, balance, power and the feeling of grace on the water. Having sent you an e-mail stating what I wanted out of the 1 day course - a course that was not one you included in your extensive range - you did your absolute best to find a package to suit me.
I cannot sing Lesley's praises loud enough. She was friendly, informative, motivating and extremely encouraging. She worked through a great range of skills but always accommodating the pace to my stamina. She also brewed a wonderful pot (pan) of tea and is a relaxed companion. I was extremely glad to have a female instructor; no disrespect to you men but we women need to stick together sometimes. Lesley understood my limitations and strengths and worked with them.
I have now gained enough confidence to try out my skills in my own canoe and hope to catch up with Lesley and Proadventure when I'm ready to advance/launch into river paddling.
