Rock Climbing and Abseiling Taster
There is no better way of trying out climbing than our half day taster session. Your experienced instructor will get you kitted up, then warm you up with some low level bouldering. This is where you will learn how to move about on the rock, weight transference and how to use your legs more effectively.
Next you will be shown how to belay (control the rope) and then you will be climbing on some of the classic beginner routes in the vale of Llangollen. These routes will allow you to practice what you have learnt while bouldering.
After bouldering we will finish off with some abseiling the classic way to get down the cliffs.
For some, a half day climbing can start a lifetime of pleasure and excitement.
Please Note - the Under 18 rate is for young people aged 14 to 17 years accompanied by a participating adult.
If you wish to bring a child aged 8 to 13 years please call us on 01978 861912 to check availability for your preferred dates.

Gorge Walking / Canyoning Taster
Gorge Walking, or Canyoning as it is known in other parts of the world, is a surprisingly satisfying activity! Making your way up (or down) a narrow, deep cleft carved in the side of a mountain by the deceptively small stream through which you are wading, or swimming. Climbing up raging torrents, secured by your instructor's rope, jumping into deep pools and abseiling down waterfalls can all be part of the fun. A well earned lunch can sometimes be had sitting in the dappled sunlight on a sun warmed slab of rock, by a deep pool with the sound of flowing water and the distant roar of the wind outside this sheltered place.
After lunch perhaps you can try to traverse that pool, but remember even the instructors fall in sometimes!
We choose the best gorges available in North Wales, so you have a great time on your Gorge Walking adventure!

Explore White Water Kayaking 2 day course
If you have ever fancied running the rapids on a river then this is the course for you. We take pride in this course. You will learn a lot, do a lot of kayaking and if you are not superhuman your muscles will be aching for most of the following week! Take it from us, those aching limbs bring back plenty of memories to cheer your working days. Kayaking keeps many office workers sane, though their colleagues may disagree!
We include a lecture, a flat water session to develop your basic paddling skills, and then it is on to the adrenaline-pumping white water for the rest of the 2 days.
Moving water skills include breaking in, breaking out, ferry gliding and running small drops. Flat water skills include turning, edging, low brace, high recovery, turning under pressure.
Building on the content of the one day course, these two days are totally focused on you being able to pick your own way down a river, as opposed to being pushed by the flow! We love this course - it's paddling at its best. This course is for those who are fairly new to the sport, have held a paddle, floated around and loved it but desperately want to increase the tempo! (or with no experience, good balance, and a will to work hard!).
Please Note - Young people aged 14 to 17 years must be accompanied by a participating adult. We are unable to offer a reduced rate for Under 18s for any of our White Water activities.
Multi-Activity 2 Day Course - Option 3 (with White Water Tubing)

MIAS Level 1 and 2 Combined Course
Our courses are combined Level 1 and Level 2 training and assessment courses, which means that all candidates are trained for both levels, and then assessed at the level which is most suited to their experience, basic technical ability and group leadership skills. We feel that this method of combining the levels allows candidates to establish standard working practices and get a complete overview of the scope of the scheme at more than one level. In a very few cases a candidate will not be ready for level 1 assessment and will return later to complete this - however this tends to be those who have very little group leadership experience in any activity.
Level 1 Outline
For instructors to lead groups off road on way marked tracks below 600 meters and within close proximity of aid. Typically; cycle tracks, forestry, parks, canal tow paths. Candidate requirements: Previous mountain bike experience.
Level 2 Outline
For instructors who want to lead groups on moorland or mountainous terrain up to 600 meters and within 30 minutes of habitation. Technically more demanding, climbs and descents on loose surfaces, small drop-offs, log hops, mud and water crossing. Candidate requirements: Previous mountain bike experience, plus Basic Expedition Leader's Award or Mountain Leader award or similar mountain experience, experience in more technical terrain. If candidates do not hold a BELA, ML or similar the assessor will need to test them on their navigation skills.
For both levels candidates will need a valid 2 day (or longer) First Aid certificate - for example REC or similar.
The 2 day course costs £160pp (excluding MIAS registration fee of £50pp). You must also register with MIAS separately. You can download details of how to register from www.proadventure.co.uk/MIAS.htm .
