Drawknives are used primarily for rough shaping of green wood, such as in the making of chair parts or tool handles. They are also quite efficient for removing bark from logs to be sawn into planks. Drawknives are customarily used at the shaving horse, but may also be used with the workpiece clamped in a large vise.
This stout drawknife's hickory handles are set straight out from the ends of the blade, so your hands are in their strongest and most natural attitude for vigorous pulling with the upper body as much as with forearms & biceps. The 11-1/2" blade is both bowed up and curved forward in the center for efficient peeling, shaping & smoothing.
